Blue Sapphire from Boadicea the Victorious, composed by Christian Provenzano and launched in 2013, is a floral fragrance set on a dark woody frame. Rose and white flowers sit at the centre, while spice, herbs and a touch of citrus circle around them, all resting on oud and amber.
The opening is bright yet unusual: lemon and marigold give a sharp, sunny lift, saffron adds a leathery warmth, and sage with chamomile brings a dry, herbal calm. The heart turns lush with rose, magnolia and Indian jasmine. Underneath, agarwood (oud) supplies a smoky, resinous depth, patchouli adds earthiness and amber rounds everything off with a glowing warmth.
This is a powerful scent by most accounts. About half of wearers call its longevity eternal and many more describe it as long lasting, and sillage is reported as strong to enormous, so a light hand is wise. It is voted for autumn and winter, equally for day and night. Worn by anyone, it suits occasions where you want a rich, noticeable presence.
