Outlands from Amouage, released in 2024, is a spicy, resinous and richly layered scent. Everyone describes it as spicy, most as resinous, about half as woody, floral and amber, and a minority as citrusy.
The opening is bright and incense-led: elemi and frankincense give a lemony, smoky resin, Sichuan pepper a tingling, citrus-like spice, and lemon, bergamot and cardamom a fresh lift. The heart is complex, with rose and geranium for a rosy floral note, wormwood and anise for a bitter-herbal, licorice-like tone, and cumin, saffron and coriander for warm, slightly leathery spice. The base is deep and smoky: birch adds a tarry smoke, labdanum, benzoin and opoponax a balsamic warmth, agarwood a dark woodiness, and vanilla and maltol a caramelised sweetness.
