Opus V – Woods Symphony from Amouage, composed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud in 2011, is a floral fragrance with a woody, slightly animalic base. Iris and rose lead, set against dry woods and oud.
The opening pairs orris root, cool and powdery, with rum for a warm, boozy sweetness. In the heart, rose and jasmine bring a rich floral layer, while orris root continues its velvety, earthy elegance. The base of civet, agarwood (oud) and dry wood is darker and more textured, with civet adding a warm, animalic depth and oud a smoky woodiness.
Wearers are split between moderate and long-lasting performance, and the sillage is mostly moderate. It is voted for spring and autumn and split almost evenly between day and night. Worn by anyone, it suits refined occasions, dinners and cooler days, for someone who enjoys powdery iris and rose with a dry, slightly wild woody finish.
