Palais Nizam, composed by Pierre-Constantin Guéros for the Austrian house WienerBlut in 2015, is a rich, boozy leather with dried plum, saffron and resin. People who describe it find it equally spicy, gourmand, resinous, leathery and citrus.
Bergamot gives a bright citrus opening, while artemisia adds a bitter, herbal, wormwood-like edge. Saffron brings a warm, leathery and gently honeyed spice. The heart is boozy and fruity: brandy adds a warm, rich, slightly woody alcoholic sweetness, and dried plum a dark, sticky, jammy fruitiness. The base is dense and textured, with labdanum giving a sticky, ambery, leathery resin, leather a smooth, tanned texture and oak a solid, barrel-like woodiness.
Unisex in spirit, it suits people who love opulent, boozy leathers. Named after a palace of the Nizams of Hyderabad, it suits autumn and winter evenings, formal occasions and celebrations. Those who enjoy brandy, plum and leather compositions with a saffron and labdanum depth should find it rich and stately.
