La Religieuse from Serge Lutens, composed by Christopher Sheldrake in 2015, is a jasmine scent with an unexpectedly animalic shadow. People describe it as musky, floral and amber in equal measure, and it is made to be worn by anyone.

Four notes are listed without a pyramid. Jasmine is the centre, a full, slightly indolic white flower rather than a fresh one. Incense gives it a cool, smoky, faintly ecclesiastical edge, which explains the name. Musk softens the whole and keeps it close to the skin, while civet adds a warm, slightly dirty animal note that makes the jasmine feel alive rather than soapy. The combination is clean and unclean at once, which is very much the house style.

Most wearers report moderate longevity, and the sillage is moderate for about half and intimate for a third, so it is not a loud fragrance. Spring and autumn take the most votes, with daytime ahead of night, which suits a cool, bright day and someone who likes their florals with a bit of edge.
