Rose opens the scent alone, warm and full, and it stays present as the woods arrive rather than disappearing after a few minutes. The heart is sandalwood and vetiver, the sandalwood creamy and smooth, the vetiver dry, rooty and slightly smoky, so the rose gradually takes on a drier, more serious character. The base brings leather, vanilla and ambergris: the leather is soft rather than harsh, the vanilla gives a gentle sweetness that explains the gourmand impression, and ambergris adds a warm, salty, mineral glow that carries the dry-down.
It is a cool-weather scent for evenings and for anyone who likes rose without sweetness or fruit, framed instead by wood and leather. Those who enjoy sandalwood-and-vetiver bases with a floral opening should find it well balanced.
