Romanza, from Masque Milano in 2015, was composed by Cristiano Canali. It is a woody green floral: woody is the word everyone uses, most also call it floral, about half find it green, and a minority notice resin and amber.
The opening is bitter and herbal, with absinthe, angelica and artemisia giving an aniseed-tinged, wormwood greenness. The heart is French narcissus, a flower with a hay-like, slightly animal, almost horsey character, alongside jasmine and violet leaves, which add richness and a crisp green edge. The base of patchouli, cedar and vetiver is earthy, dry and faintly smoky, with amber adding a low warmth.
Most wearers report near-permanent or long-lasting wear, and the projection is strong for most. It is voted for spring above all, then autumn, and splits evenly between day and night. Worn by anyone, it suits people who like narcissus and bitter greens and want a floral that is strange rather than pretty.
