Light and shadow is the idea behind the name, and Luci ed Ombre by Masque Milano, composed by Giuseppe Imprezzabile and released in 2013, does split in two. Everyone who describes it calls it green, woody, floral and ambery at the same time, and about half add spicy and resinous.

Ginger opens it with a fresh, zesty heat. The floral heart is built on tuberose and jasmine, which bring a creamy, slightly narcotic white-flower richness, but the green and mossy elements, oakmoss and moss, keep them from becoming lush and sweet. The shadow side comes from frankincense and olibanum, which add a dry, church-like smokiness, with patchouli and cedar giving the base an earthy, pencil-shaving dryness.

It is a shared scent, worn by anyone. The pairing of white flowers with incense and moss suggests a contemplative, cooler-weather fragrance rather than a bright summer one, and it suits people who find straightforward tuberose scents too sweet.
