Saffron and cardamom lead, a dry, slightly leathery spice beside a warm, aromatic one, and together they give the opening its character. Cypriol, also called nagarmotha, adds an earthy, smoky, oud-like depth, and guaiac wood a dry, tar-tinged warmth.
