Champion by Davidoff, released in 2010 and composed by Aurélien Guichard, is a sharp green citrus for men. Green is the description everyone shares, two thirds also call it citrus, and a third woody. It is bracing and clean, closer to a classic cologne than to a sweet modern masculine.
Bergamot and lemon open it, a crisp, zesty start. The heart is galbanum and clary sage, where galbanum brings an intense, bitter, snapped-stem greenness and the sage a dry, herbal, slightly leathery note; this is the most distinctive stage. The base is cedar and oakmoss, dry and mossy, which gives it a traditional, slightly austere finish.
Most wearers report moderate longevity, with a quarter finding it long lasting, and two thirds describe projection as moderate. Summer and spring lead the season votes, and it is chosen mainly for daytime. It suits hot weather, sport and the office, for someone who prefers green bitterness to sweetness and does not mind a scent that fades by evening.
