Royal Oud from Creed is a clean, green wood rather than a heavy oud: nearly everyone describes it as woody, two thirds add green and citrus, and only a third find it spicy or musky. It was released in 2011 and composed by Julien Rasquinet with Olivier Creed.
It opens with lemon and Sicilian bergamot brightened by pink pepper, so the start is crisp and lightly peppery. The heart is where the green comes from: galbanum is sharp and resinous, angelica adds a herbal, slightly earthy tone, and cedar gives a dry pencil-shaving woodiness. The base sets a polished oud against sandalwood and musk, smooth and restrained, more a suggestion of oud than the medicinal kind.
It is worn by anyone. Wearers are split between long lasting and moderate longevity, and sillage is moderate for most, with a minority calling it intimate. Autumn and winter are the favoured seasons, with a slight lean to night. It suits someone who wants a refined, office-safe wood with a touch of oud for cooler months.
