Blue Hope by Xerjoff (2014) is a citrus fragrance with a darker side. Citrus leads, and about half of those who describe it also notice spice, wood, musk, flowers and leather.
Mandarin and bergamot give a juicy, sunny opening with a slightly bitter peel. Saffron soon adds warmth and a leathery, almost metallic spice, while jasmine brings a smooth, rich floral note. The base turns more animalic: castoreum, used for a leather effect, gives a warm, slightly smoky hide quality, cedar supplies dry wood, and vanilla and musk soften the finish into something rounded and close to the skin.
Blue Hope is shared and worn by anyone. The bright start makes it approachable for daytime, but the leather and saffron in the drydown suit evenings and cooler weather. It should please someone who wants a citrus scent with more weight than a classic cologne.
