Silvestre is a green, woody classic from the Italian house Victor, released in 1946 and marketed for men. Green and woody are the two words everyone uses for it, most also find it floral, and a third notice spice, herbs or citrus, which describes an old-style aromatic built on pine and moss.

Lavender, bergamot and a cluster of herbal notes open it, clean, bracing and slightly camphorous, like a cologne made in a pine forest. The heart is where it becomes distinctive: pine tree gives a resinous, needle-like freshness, oregano and bay leaf add a savoury, kitchen-herb bitterness, and rose and carnation bring a warm, faintly clove-spiced floral that softens the greenery. The base is dry and traditional, with oakmoss providing a damp, bitter depth, cedar and vetiver dry and smoky woods, and musk a soft, slightly animalic warmth beneath it all.

It is a scent for daytime and the cooler months, for men who like herbal, mossy, pine-scented fragrances and appreciate a style that has barely changed in decades.
