Mandarin orange, ginger and lavender open it: the citrus is bright, the ginger brings a cool, peppery heat, and the lavender provides the clean, herbal backbone the fougère style depends on. The heart is darker and drier, with labdanum adding a warm, leathery resin and akigalawood a peppery, woody depth. Coumarin in the base gives the soft, hay-like sweetness that traditionally closes a fougère.
