Moscado, composed by Gaël Montero for The Merchant of Venice and released in 2024, is a spiced musk worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it finds it spicy, musky, floral and citrus, and about half add resinous and amber.
Green mandarin and mandarin orange open it, sweet and zesty, with pink pepper and cardamom adding a warm, fresh, slightly rosy spice. Bulgarian rose sits at the heart, honeyed and bright, and incense threads a dry smokiness through it. The base is built on musk, black musk and myrrh: the musks give a soft, skin-like warmth with a darker, slightly animal edge, the myrrh a bitter balsamic depth, and tonka bean rounds it off with a creamy, almond-like sweetness.
The mix of citrus, rose and resin over musk gives it a smooth, slightly mysterious character. It suits cooler months and evenings, and should appeal to anyone who likes musk with some spice and smoke rather than a clean laundry style.
