Grapefruit and lemon give the opening a sharp, bright, slightly bitter lift, and cranberry adds a tart, red fruitiness. Lavender and sage bring a clean, herbal, aromatic quality that is typical of the Polo line, and saffron a warm, dry, slightly leathery spice. Coffee is the signature of this version: roasted, dark and a little bitter, it anchors the middle. Vanilla softens it with a creamy sweetness, and cedar gives the base a dry, clean woodiness that keeps it from becoming too dessert-like.
