Mandarino, composed by Delphine Thierry for Lubin in 2018, is a citrus fragrance with a floral heart. Everyone who describes it calls it citrus, most add floral, about half say musky and a quarter woody.
The opening is a basket of orange fruit: mandarin leads, sweet and slightly tangy, with orange and bergamot for breadth and kumquat for a sharper, bitter-peel edge. The flowers follow and they are chosen to match: jasmine sambac and jasmine bring a bright, slightly green floral warmth, and freesia adds a peppery, watery freshness. The base is simple and soft, with white musk and musk giving a clean skin-like finish and sandalwood a gentle, creamy wood that extends the citrus a little longer than usual.
It is worn by anyone. The character suggests summer days and daytime wear, and a person who likes a classic Mediterranean citrus but wants a touch more floral softness than a plain cologne offers.
