Absolu de Vanille is a rich, resinous vanilla, released by the French house La Maison de la Vanille in 2011. It is worn by anyone.

Vanilla and vanilla absolute are the whole point, dark, slightly boozy and more complex than the sugary vanilla of confectionery. Tonka bean adds an almondy, hay-like sweetness alongside. The resins give it depth: benzoin brings a sweet, balsamic warmth, opoponax a slightly smoky, honeyed resin, and labdanum a rich, leathery amber. Patchouli adds an earthy, dark edge that keeps the sweetness grounded.

It suits autumn and winter and evening wear. Anyone who likes vanilla done as a resinous amber rather than a dessert should find it a satisfying choice, particularly for cold days when something warm and enveloping is wanted.
