Atkinsons Her Majesty The Oud, from the British house Atkinsons and released in 2016, is a sweet floral oud for women. Floral is what everyone notices, most also find it gourmand, and a minority pick up spice, wood and leather.
Fruity notes and saffron open it, the fruit soft and jammy, the saffron warm and faintly leathery. The heart is rose, in both Turkish rose and plain rose form, full, rich and slightly honeyed, with osmanthus adding an apricot-like sweetness and iris a cool, powdery touch. Agarwood and leather sit in the base, dark and resinous but held in check, while vanilla absolute and vanilla give it a creamy, dessert-like finish.
It is marketed as feminine and suits evenings and cooler weather, for someone who wants the rose-and-oud pairing done softly, with more sweetness than smoke.
