Le Joker

Le Joker is a peppery, salty woody fragrance from the French house Art de Parfum, released in 2020. Spicy is the word everyone uses for it; about half also find it woody, a third green, musky or fresh, and a smaller group pick up amber.

The spice is a whole pepper rack: black pepper, pink pepper, red chilli pepper and pimento, joined by nutmeg and star anise, so the opening is hot, sharp and slightly sweet all at once. Sea water and sea notes run through it with a salty, mineral freshness that is unexpected next to so much heat. Atlas cedar and cedar give a dry woody frame, cypriol a smoky, earthy, leather-like depth, and oakmoss and moss a damp, green bitterness. Powdery notes soften the middle, and patchouli, musk, animal notes and ambroxan give the base a warm, slightly raw, long-lasting finish.
