Neroli Portofino, composed by Rodrigo Flores-Roux for Tom Ford in 2011, is a citrus fragrance worn by anyone. Three quarters of wearers also call it floral and half aromatic, with green, musky and amber sides for a quarter.
It opens with a bright cluster of citrus, lemon, bergamot, bitter orange and mandarin orange, lifted by lavender, rosemary and myrtle for a herbal, Mediterranean freshness. The heart is orange-flower territory: neroli and African orange flower give a clean, honeyed white floral, jasmine adds softness, and pittosporum a green, slightly waxy sweetness. The base of amber, ambrette and angelica is light, with ambrette providing a soft musk and angelica a dry, green-herbal edge.
Most wearers find the longevity moderate and more than a quarter call it weak, so it fades like most citrus scents. Sillage is moderate for most and intimate for a third. It is voted for summer above all and then spring, and overwhelmingly for daytime, which suits hot weather and holidays.
