Sleight of Fern is a green, floral take on the classic fougère, released by the Italian house Masque Milano in 2022 and composed by Stephanie Bakouche. It is worn by anyone.

Calabrian bergamot and lavender open it in traditional fougère fashion, fresh and aromatic, with thyme and red thyme adding a herbal, slightly medicinal sharpness. The heart turns floral: narcissus and tuberose give a green, slightly animalic white-floral richness, geranium adds a rosy, minty edge and fig a milky greenness. The base holds the structure together with oakmoss, dry and earthy, tonka bean for a soft, hay-like sweetness, sandalwood for creaminess, and birch and mastic for a smoky, resinous leather edge.

It suits spring and autumn and works for daytime or evening. Anyone who likes fougères but wants one with more flowers and texture should find it rewarding.
