Vintage by John Varvatos, released in 2006 and composed by Rodrigo Flores-Roux, is a herbal, woody masculine scent with a sweet tobacco warmth. People describe it as sweet, woody and aromatic in equal measure, with most also noting spicy, green and floral facets.
The opening is unusual and green: basil, wormwood and fennel bring a bitter-herbal, slightly anise-like freshness, quince and rhubarb a tart fruitiness, and pepper a dry spice. The heart grows warmer and powdery, with orris root adding a cool powder, cinnamon a sweet spice, lavender and juniper an aromatic lift, and green leaves with jasmine a soft freshness. The base is rich and cosy, as tobacco and suede bring a dry, leathery warmth, tonka bean sweetness, balsam fir a resinous note, and oakmoss and patchouli an earthy depth.
Most wearers report moderate longevity and a moderate trail. Votes favour autumn and winter and split almost evenly between day and night, suiting cool-weather days.
