Artisan Blu, released by John Varvatos in 2016 for men, is a green, herbal woody floral with a Mediterranean feel. Everyone describes it as woody and floral; about two thirds also find it aromatic and citrus, and a third green.
The opening is crisp and leafy: bergamot and bitter orange give a sharp citrus, basil and lavender a fresh, herbal greenness and chayote a cool, watery, vegetal note. The heart is soft and slightly powdery, with orange blossom and geranium bringing a clean floral brightness, iris a cool powder, clary sage a dry herbal edge and palmarosa a rosy, grassy freshness. The base turns drier and more resinous, as pine and cedar add a sharp, forest woodiness, tamarisk and patchouli an earthy depth and pistachio a faintly nutty softness.
Most wearers report moderate longevity, and a fifth find it weak; the trail is moderate to intimate. It is voted for summer and spring, and strongly for daytime. It suits warm days and anyone who prefers herbs and pine to sweetness.
