Duel from Goutal, created by Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal in 2003, is a green, leathery masculine with a powdery iris heart. Green, woody, musky, floral and leathery facets are described in equal measure.
It opens with petitgrain, giving a fresh, bitter and slightly green citrus note, and holly, a crisp, leafy greenness. The heart brings artemisia, herbal and slightly bitter, and orris root, cool, powdery and elegant. The base is soft and textured, with guaiac wood giving a gentle smokiness, leather a smooth, suede-like warmth and musk a clean, skin-like finish.
Its quiet, refined character makes it versatile, suited to the office, daytime and the milder seasons. It will appeal to someone who wants an understated, slightly old-world masculine where green leaves, iris and leather meet softly, without sweetness or loud projection.
