Eau d'Hadrien from Goutal, released in 1980 and composed by Annick Goutal and Francis Camail, is a pure citrus cologne. People describe it as citrus above all, with woody, fresh and floral facets noted only by a minority.

The notes are mostly fruit from the same tree: lemon, Sicilian lemon, citron, grapefruit and mandarin, a bright, zesty, slightly bitter burst that smells like freshly cut peel. Cypress adds a green, resinous dryness, aldehydes give it sparkle and lift, and a trace of ylang-ylang softens the edges with a faint floral creaminess.

As with most true colognes, it does not last long: most wearers report weak or very weak longevity, and most find the sillage intimate. It is voted overwhelmingly for summer and daytime. It is worn by anyone, and suits hot weather, frequent reapplication and anyone who wants a clean, uncomplicated lemon.
