Suma Oriental

Suma Oriental by Une Nuit Nomade, released in 2015 and worn by anyone, is a dark, dry woody scent with a boozy, chocolatey top. Woodiness is what everyone agrees on; a quarter also describe it as sweet and musky.

Cypriol, also called nagarmotha, opens it, a smoky, earthy, slightly leathery wood that smells a little like oud, and cacao pod and rum sit beside it, the cacao dusty and bitter rather than sweet, the rum warm and spirited. Patchouli forms the heart, earthy and dark, continuing the dry mood. The base is a stack of woods: sandalwood for creaminess, guaiac wood for a smoky, slightly tarry sweetness, cashmere wood for a soft, musky warmth, with tonka bean adding a gentle almond-like sweetness and musk a smooth finish.

It reads as a cold-weather, evening fragrance for someone who likes woods on the dark, smoky side, with just enough cocoa and rum to feel warm rather than austere.
