Quercus by Penhaligon's, released in 1996 and composed by Christian Provenzano, is a classic citrus fragrance with green and floral touches. It is crisp, clean and refined, in the traditional English cologne style.

The opening is a bright citrus mix of bergamot, mandarin, Amalfi lemon and lime, sharp and refreshing. In the heart, lily of the valley adds a dewy, green floral note, cardamom a cool, aromatic spice and jasmine a soft sweetness. The base of oakmoss, galbanum, amber, sandalwood and musk brings a mossy, green and gently woody finish.

As with many citrus colognes, longevity is reported as moderate by many and weak by over a third, and the sillage is mostly intimate. It is voted for summer and spring and overwhelmingly for daytime. Worn by anyone, it suits hot days, the office and smart daytime occasions, for someone who prefers a discreet, elegant freshness.
