It opens with bergamot and other citrus notes, sharpened by pink pepper, so the first minutes are bright and slightly peppery. The heart is the surprising part: dark chocolate, bitter rather than milky, set against clary sage, a herbal note with a dry, slightly musky, hay-like character. The two together give a sweet-savoury middle that is unusual in a citrus scent. The base is patchouli alone, earthy and dark, which anchors the chocolate and gives the drydown its woody weight.
