It opens with grapefruit and bergamot alongside two roses, Moroccan and Bulgarian, so the flower is present from the first minute, bright and slightly tart. The heart turns cooler and more interesting: iris adds a dry, powdery elegance and incense a thin thread of smoke, which keeps the rose from becoming merely pretty. The base is warm and sweet, with Madagascar vanilla and amber wrapping the flower, cedar adding a dry edge and musk softening the finish.
The arc from citrus rose to smoky powder to sweet amber gives it range. It suits daytime and evening alike, and cooler weather in particular, and will appeal to anyone who likes rose with a bit of mystery.
