The notes are not split into stages, but the shape is easy to read. Bergamot and clary sage give a brisk, slightly herbal start, geranium and orris root add a rosy, powdery floral layer, and saffron lends a dry, leathery warmth. Underneath sit pine for a resinous forest feel, patchouli for earthy depth, labdanum for sweet amber and a base of musk, ambroxan, ambergris and castoreum that turns salty, animalic and persistent on skin.
