Eau de Néroli Doré by Hermès, composed by Jean-Claude Ellena in 2016, is a neroli scent worn by anyone. Spicy, floral and citrus accords are all noticed by essentially everyone who describes it, which fits its three-note structure.
Neroli, the oil of orange-blossom flowers, is the centre: green, honeyed and slightly bitter, both floral and fresh at once. Bitter orange adds the zesty, peel-like brightness of the fruit, and saffron brings an unexpected warm, leathery, slightly metallic spice that gives the neroli a golden tint rather than a soapy one. With only three materials named, the scent is transparent and precise, and each of them is easy to follow from the first minutes to the drydown.
It is the kind of fragrance that suits warm weather and daytime, for someone who prefers restraint and clarity to sweetness or heavy projection, and who likes a scent that smells natural rather than constructed.
