Cuir Sauvage

Cuir Sauvage by the British house Edeniste, composed by Aurélien Guichard and released in 2022, is a sweet, salted leather gourmand worn by anyone. Gourmand is the word everyone uses; about half also call it leathery, and a minority find it fresh.

The pairing at its centre is leather and suede against dessert. Licorice opens it with a dark, sweet, aniseed-like note, and almond adds a soft, marzipan bitterness. Leather and suede give the heart a supple, slightly smoky grip, smooth rather than harsh. The base is rich: caramel for a burnt-sugar sweetness, dark chocolate for a bitter cocoa depth, tonka bean for an almond-vanilla warmth, salt for a savoury edge that keeps the sugar honest and talc for a soft, powdery finish.
