Matin Calin

Matin Calin from the French house Comptoir Sud Pacifique is a soft, milky gourmand for women. Everyone who has described it calls it gourmand, and about a third also notice a woody side from its single wood note.

The four notes read like a breakfast: milk, sugar, vanilla and sandalwood. Milk gives it a creamy, lactonic softness, the kind of warm, comforting smell associated with rice pudding or warm milk at bedtime. Sugar adds a plain, slightly caramelised sweetness, and vanilla rounds it into something smooth and familiar. Sandalwood is the one element that keeps it from being purely edible, bringing a gentle, milky wood that blends with the dairy notes rather than standing apart from them.
