Gold Woman, created by Guy Robert for Amouage in 1983, is a rich floral amber with a smoky, resinous depth. Flowers and amber share the lead, woods are prominent, about half of people find it resinous, and a minority note green and musky shades.

The opening combines rose, incense and lily of the valley, a fresh floral brightness wrapped in cool, smoky resin. The heart is warm and balsamic, with myrrh, labdanum and jasmine giving a sticky, golden sweetness, and orris root a soft powder. The base layers amber, oakmoss, ambergris, sandalwood and civet: amber and ambergris bring a glowing, salty warmth, oakmoss a dry green shade, and civet a sensual, animalic touch.

Most wearers find it long lasting, and the trail is reported as strong or moderate. It is voted mainly for winter and autumn and worn by day and night in nearly equal measure. It suits formal events, cold-weather evenings and anyone who appreciates a classic, opulent floral amber with real staying power.
