Atramental is a spicy citrus with a resinous, leathery base, released by the French house Room 1015 in 2015 and composed by Anne-Sophie Behaghel and Amélie Bourgeois. It is worn by anyone.
Lemon, bergamot and a mix of citruses open it with a bright sparkle, cooled by water notes that give an inky, almost wet quality. Cardamom and black pepper form the heart, the first aromatic and cool, the second dry and sharp, so the middle stays lively rather than sweet. The base darkens considerably: castoreum brings a warm, animalic, leathery depth, saffron a golden, slightly medicinal spice, and resins a balsamic, long-lasting warmth.
It suits spring and autumn and works for both day and evening. Anyone who likes citrus with a dark, leathery turn rather than a clean musky finish should find it an interesting wear.
