Rum and mate open it, the first boozy and warm, the second green and slightly bitter, so the start is less sugary than the notes might suggest. The heart is where the dessert arrives: cocoa and cacao pod give a dark, slightly dry chocolate, hazelnut and marron glacé a nutty, candied sweetness, and bourbon vanilla a smooth, creamy warmth. Iris adds a cool, powdery touch. The base is woody and smoky, with guaiac wood, patchouli, incense and myrrh giving depth and a resinous, slightly bitter edge, and musk a soft finish.
It is an autumn and winter scent, suited to evenings and cold days. Anyone who likes chocolate gourmands with woods and smoke rather than pure sugar should find it rewarding.
