Brittany Breeze, composed by Delphine Thierry for Lubin in 2017, is an aromatic green fragrance named for the windswept coast of northern France. Everyone who describes it calls it green, woody, floral and aromatic all at once, and about half add spicy and citrus.
The opening is sharp and herbal: bergamot and mint give a cold, clean lift, galbanum and artemisia add bitter, sappy green, and thyme and lavender bring the scrubland herbs. Spice arrives quietly in the middle with star anise and a pinch of cumin, warm and slightly savoury, while geranium and violet soften the herbs with a rosy, faintly powdery floral note. The base is a classic chypre structure: oakmoss, dark and damp, vetiver dry and rooty, cedar for crispness, with tonka bean adding just enough sweetness to round it off.
It is worn by anyone. The bracing character suits spring and summer days, coastal walks and a wearer who likes old-fashioned herbal colognes with more depth than usual.
