Classique is Jean Paul Gaultier's 1993 feminine, composed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud: a powdery, spiced floral with a sweet vanilla base. Floral is how everyone describes it, about half also call it sweet, a third spicy and citrusy, and a minority find amber and leather.
The opening pairs rose and orange blossom with pear, a sweet, fruity-floral start sharpened by star anise and its liquorice edge. The heart is where the powder comes from, iris and tuberose giving a cool, cosmetic softness. The base is cinnamon and vanilla over amber, warm, sweet and spiced.
Wearers split between long lasting and moderate on longevity, and sillage divides evenly between strong and moderate, so it projects comfortably. Autumn and winter lead the seasonal votes and it is worn as much by night as by day. It suits cooler months, evenings out and anyone who likes a powdery, old-fashioned floral with a vanilla finish rather than a fresh or green one.
Classique — unisex fragrance by Jean Paul Gaultier (released 1993). Top notes: Orange Blossom, Star Anise, Rose, Mandarin Orange, Pear, Bergamot. Heart notes: Ylang-Ylang, Ginger, Orchid, Tuberose, Iris, Plum. Base notes: Vanilla, Amber, Musk, Cinnamon, Sandalwood. — Parfica open fragrance database
