Bois Obscur from Byredo, composed by Jérôme Epinette in 2025, is a dark woody fragrance with saffron, oud and a white-floral heart. Wood is the main impression for everyone who describes it, about half also notice flowers, and a minority mention spice, freshness, resin and amber.

The opening pairs saffron, warm and leathery, with eucalyptus, cool and camphorous, and papyrus, dry and slightly smoky. The heart is an unusual blend: agarwood gives a dark, resinous, slightly medicinal woodiness, while jasmine and tuberose add a creamy, heady floral glow that lightens the darkness. The base is warm and deep, with sandalwood bringing a creamy smoothness, labdanum and amber a sticky, golden resin, and patchouli an earthy richness.

Unisex in spirit, it suits people who like woody fragrances with a mysterious, slightly floral side. The name means dark wood, and the profile points to autumn and winter, evenings and formal occasions. Those who enjoy oud tempered by white flowers and a resinous amber base should find it intriguing.
