Invincible

Invincible is a pared-back woody citrus marketed for men from New Brand Parfums, released in 2018. Woody is how everyone describes it, and about half also call it citrusy, which fits a formula of just three notes.

Grapefruit opens it with a sharp, slightly bitter, sunny citrus, and because it is the only fresh element, the start feels clean and direct. Guaiac wood is the heart, a dry, smoky, slightly sweet wood with a faint suggestion of tar and rose, and it is what gives the scent its character once the citrus settles. Patchouli sits beneath it with a dark, earthy, slightly damp depth, grounding the guaiac and giving the drydown more weight than two notes alone would manage. The two woods together are what remain, dry, smoky and a little earthy, with the memory of grapefruit still faintly present.

It is a simple daytime scent for most seasons, for men who like woods kept dry and smoky and want citrus as a brief introduction rather than the main event.
