Carved Oud

Carved Oud by the British house Thameen, released in 2018, is first and foremost a woody fragrance, with spice and lighter touches of sweetness, musk, flowers and amber. It is shared and worn by anyone.

The opening is lively: pink pepper and cardamom, including Guatemalan cardamom, bring a cool, aromatic, slightly rosy spice, while cypress adds a resinous, green, pine-like freshness. In the heart, iris gives a soft, powdery, refined texture that smooths the transition to the woods. The base is rich and layered: agarwood, or oud, brings a dark, smoky, resinous depth, Haitian vetiver and vetiver an earthy, rooty dryness, cypriol a smoky earthiness, and cedar and sandalwood a dry and creamy wooden frame. Vanilla, amber, patchouli and musk add a warm, rounded finish.

It feels polished and deliberate, an oud shaped into something refined rather than raw. It suits autumn and winter, evenings and formal occasions, and appeals to those who like spicy, woody scents with depth.
