Act 3 is one of the deliberately minimal compositions from the Dutch house Pantomime, composed by Fredrik Dalman and released in 2023. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, and that is the whole story: it is built on just two materials.

Laotian oud provides the body. Oud from Laos tends to be smoother and less barnyard-like than some other origins, with a dark, slightly sweet, leathery woodiness that develops slowly on the skin. Ionones are the molecules that give violets their scent, and here they add a soft, powdery, faintly woody halo around the oud, lightening it and giving it a gentle floral shimmer without any obvious flower. The result is an exercise in contrast between something dense and something almost weightless.

Act 3 is worn by anyone. Its spare, contemplative character suits cooler months and quiet evenings, and it is likely to appeal to people who enjoy oud as a material and want to hear it without a crowd of other notes.
