Genesis

Genesis from House of Brandt, composed by Kamila Lelakova and released in 2023, is a woody rose with a tobacco warmth. Woody is the word everyone uses for it; about half also find it spicy, gourmand, floral or aromatic.

The top pairs blackcurrant, tart and slightly green, with saffron, which brings a warm, leathery, faintly medicinal spice. The heart sets rose against Javanol, a modern sandalwood molecule that is creamy, smooth and a little milky; together they give a velvety, slightly sweet floral woodiness. The base deepens with natural sandalwood, tobacco, which adds a dry, hay-like, honeyed warmth, and cashmere wood, a soft, musky, slightly powdery wood note that gives the drydown a cosy feel.

Genesis is worn by anyone. Its warm, rounded character points to autumn and winter and to evenings, and it should suit someone who wants rose in a woody, tobacco-tinged form rather than a fresh or soapy one.
