Free d'Homme

Free d'Homme by CoSTUME NATIONAL, composed by Julien Rasquinet in 2022, is a citrus masculine with an incense and amber base. Citrus is what everyone picks up first; about half also describe it as spicy, resinous and amber-like.

Lime and lemon open it, sharp, zesty and bright. Saffron adds a dry, warm spice that gives the citrus an unexpected depth. The base is where the character lives: incense brings a cool, resinous smoke, labdanum a dark, warm, slightly leathery amber, and cypriol, also called nagarmotha, an earthy, smoky, oud-like wood. The contrast between the fresh top and the smoky, resinous base is the point of the scent.

It reads as a fresh fragrance with a serious finish, suited to someone who likes citrus but wants it to turn into something warm and smoky rather than fade into musk, and who wants a scent that works from a bright morning into a cool evening.
