Nonchalant

Nonchalant from the British house Contradictions in ILK, released in 2020, is a sweet, boozy floral with resin and spice. Floral is the word everyone uses for it; about half also find it spicy, gourmand or resinous, and a quarter musky or ambery.

Red berries and raspberry give the opening a bright, jammy fruitiness, and cinnamon and pepper add a warm, slightly sharp spice. Rose, violet and orange blossom make up the floral heart, the rose full and sweet, the violet soft and powdery, the orange blossom honeyed and slightly green, with geranium adding a green, rosy edge. Brandy brings a dark, boozy warmth underneath. Olibanum and frankincense add a dry, church-like smoke, labdanum a rich, leathery amber, vanilla a creamy sweetness, and patchouli and musk an earthy, soft, lasting finish.

Nonchalant is worn by anyone. Its warm, sweet, slightly smoky character suits autumn and winter and evening wear, and it should appeal to someone who likes fruity florals with brandy and incense behind them.
