Epic Man

Epic Man from Amouage, composed by Randa Hammami in 2009, is a dense, spiced woody fragrance with a smoky, resinous core. Spice leads, wood is close behind, and a good share of people also find it resinous, ambery and leathery, with a minority noting a floral touch.

The opening is a rich spice market: pink pepper, cardamom, nutmeg and saffron arrive together, warm and aromatic, with frankincense already adding a cool, smoky resin. Geranium and myrrh shape the heart, the geranium slightly rosy and green, the myrrh bittersweet and balsamic. The base is deep and dark, built on agarwood (oud), leather, incense and sandalwood: oud brings a woody, slightly medicinal depth, leather a dry, supple texture, and sandalwood a creamy warmth to soften the smoke.

About half of wearers find it long lasting, and the trail is moderate to strong. It is voted mainly for winter and autumn, with a slight lean towards evening, which suits cold-weather occasions, formal dinners and men who enjoy rich, incense-laden scents.
