Champs

Champs is a 2022 release from the Qatari house Al-Jazeera Perfumes, composed by Paul Guerlain and worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it uses the same four words, spicy, musky, resinous and ambery, which matches a composition of just four notes.

The notes are given as one group: nutmeg, benzoin, musk and Ambroxan. Nutmeg supplies the spice, a warm, slightly sweet and woody heat rather than a sharp pepper. Benzoin brings the resin, a soft, balsamic, vanilla-tinged sweetness that gives the scent its glow. Musk rounds everything into a clean, skin-like warmth, and Ambroxan adds the ambergris effect, a dry, salty, slightly mineral radiance that makes the whole feel larger than its short note list suggests.

The result reads as a minimalist amber: warm, smooth and spiced, without flowers, fruit or citrus to brighten it. It suits anyone who likes the comfortable side of amber and musk and prefers a scent with few moving parts.
