Varens Sweet Cerise Pistache from the French house Ulric de Varens, released in 2023, is a cherry and pistachio gourmand for women. Everyone who describes it calls it sweet, and about a third also find it woody, musky and floral.

Cherry and sour cherry open it together, so the fruit is ripe and jammy but with a tart, slightly bitter edge that keeps it lively. The heart pairs cherry blossom, soft and faintly powdery, with pistachio, which brings a creamy, nutty, slightly green sweetness. The base is almond, sandalwood and musk: the almond adds a marzipan smoothness, the sandalwood a creamy wood and the musk a soft, skin-like finish.

It is marketed as feminine and has a cosy, dessert-like character suited to autumn and winter and to casual evenings, for someone who likes cherry and nuts without heavy vanilla.
