Notes

Notes, from Robert Piguet, is a green floral composed by Aurélien Guichard and released in 2012, and it is worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it finds it green and floral, and about half also call it gourmand, woody and citrus.

Bergamot gives the opening a bright, slightly bitter lift. Clary sage and geranium then set the green, herbal tone: the sage is tea-like and faintly sweet, the geranium rosy with a minty edge. Orange blossom adds a honeyed white-flower warmth in the middle. The base is a classic chypre structure, with oakmoss bringing a dry, forest-floor bitterness and vetiver an earthy, rooty cleanness, while costus adds a slightly animal, hair-like warmth and tonka bean a soft, sweet finish that accounts for the gourmand votes.

This is a composition with an old-fashioned backbone and a modern lightness. It suits daytime and the cooler months, and people who like mossy, herbal scents with a hint of sweetness.
